In 2013 Natura Pacific were engaged to develop and implement rapid site assessment methodology to assess and classify the condition of mangroves and potential sustainable harvesting practices in the Lubu Forest Area for the purpose of supporting mangrove management into the future. The assessment specifically required the identification, classification and mapping of mangrove vegetation and the development and establishment of a monitoring program for a trial sustainable harvesting program for the Brunei Forestry Department. Detailed information on stand density and volume of timber was assessed, calculated and mapped for the 7,000 ha reserve. Other recommendations were provided for: harvesting methods; prevention of weed invasion; pollution reduction; biomass disposal; bank stabilisation measures; rehabilitation requirements; faunal considerations; and ecosystem services. – COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT – ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT – MANAGEMENT & MONITORING – RESTORATION PLANNING – MAPPING & GIS – ENVIRONMENTAL CONSULTING –
