2016 has been a big year for the team here at Natura Pacific, and apart from the variety of wonderful projects, partners and collaborators we have been involved with, some of the highlights have included the recognition of the work we do through several prestigious awards.
The Waterways Field Guide Project was a joint initiative between Natura Education, City of Gold Coast and Gold Coast Waterwatch that produced practical, informative and colourful field guides for students and community groups to use while exploring our waterways. The outcome was four field guides brimming with high-quality digital photographs, images and detailed information on all aspects of our natural waterways. This wonderful project not only created a valuable new resource for students and the community but was also named as one of four finalists in the 2016 Healthy Waterways Awards in the Sustainable Education category.
Natura Pacific’s sustainability-focused social enterprise model which delivers a ‘charity by trade’ work ethos meant that we were very humbled to be named the winner of the Business Award during the 2016 United Nations Environment Day Awards.
Kieran Richardt, Natura’s Director was also honoured to receive the STEM Education Partnership Award as part of the 2016 Peter Doherty Awards . This award gave recognition to Kieran’s significant contributions to STEM Education through the work undertaken by Natura Education since its inception back in 2005.
Finally, Natura Pacific were once more very humbled to be considered as ‘Highly Commended’ in the Small Business category of the 2016 Queensland Premier’s Sustainability Awards. Here, once again, our extraordinary business model that has been able to deliver environmental education outcomes for so many members of the community over time.
All in all it has been a wonderful year, and the team here at Natura Pacific are even more motivated and determined to see even more positive outcomes for both the environment and the community come from the coming year of 2017. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who have supported us or collaborated with us during 2016, and we look forward to making even bigger dreams a reality moving into the new year.
