In 2013, Natura Pacific worked with the AusCongo Network in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, central Africa, to bring about online environmental workshops to help the community with their farming. This program used Skype video-conferencing to schedule 1-2 hours per week in environmental education for rural farmers and interest community stakeholders. The program covered how to use composting and worm farms to create natural fertiliser and how to build solar cookers and rocket mass heaters to improve energy use in households. We also worked with the farmers to maximise crop-yield and minimise impacts on biodiversity through healthy farming techniques and agro-conservation. This amazing project has helped to improve the quality of life for people and wildlife in this war-stricken country. Natura Pacific hopes to work with similar communities in western Africa in the future. – COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT – ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION –
