The Re-greening of the Gold Coast
Natura Pacific is working on a very exciting new re-greening project that involves local government authorities right across South East Queensland.
Logan, Ipswich, Brisbane, Gold Coast and Scenic Rim are all focusing on bringing back native bushland for wildlife and recreation across our region. Natura Pacific along with Lendlease, are working on funding and implementing a native seed propagation program at Borallon Correctional and Training Centre, Ironbark.
The idea is to collect native seeds from local development sites and safely store and transport them to the Centre. Here, under a TAFE Horticulture course, in-mates of the Centre will sift, sow and propagate the young seeds into tubestock. The trees will be cultivated to an age when they’re ready to be planted out.
And this is where the LGAs come in, we are calling on schools, council bodies, community groups and passionate individuals to help us organise events and pinpoint the best, ecologically-aligned areas in order to plant our natives.
From dune fronts to rainforest gullies, we want to bring the Green back to the Gold!
